Super Mario Bros. Wonder

If you've enjoyed previous 2D side scrolling Mario platforming games (and who doesn't, really?), you are going to enjoy Wonder. It shares all of the positive attributes with prevois games in the series - fun gameplay, great level design, etc. It is also the most sophisticated Mario 2D game in terms of visuals and graphics. Generally, though, it is more of the same and I think for that reason I didn't enjoy it quite as much as the New Super Mario Games. I played most of the game with my kids, which was my favorite part. Playing with others, however, does make it difficult to do things like get all of the purple coins or find the secret exits to stages. The game in general is short, around 8-10 hours, and skipping these parts makes it feel even shorter. The whole concept of getting the Wonder seeds was a bit confusing, and the "story" told within the game was a bit odd, but it's nothing to get caught up in. Bowser is the bad guy and you save a land that he has taken over by defeating platforming stages. But where I got caught up in this a bit is that you needed so many Wonder seeds to advance to the next level, and sometimes it wasn't always obvious how to access the parts of the stage that contained the Wonder seed. At any rate, this was a minor deal and overall the game was enjoyable and mostly familiar feeling due to its similarity to previous Mario side scrolling 2D platforming games. The story is a bit odd but takes a back seat to the fun gameplay, especially when playing with your kids or others.
