Season 3 of The Mandalorian meanders at times, but by the time the season finishes it is able to nicely tie together three season's worth of plot. Most of the season focuses on Bo-Katan rather than title character Din Djarin and Grogu. The Mandalorians are fractioned across the galaxy. Their home planet of Mandalore has been defeated, and Bo-Katan's attempts to bring Mandalore back to power have not been successful. To make matters worse, she no longer possesses the Darksaber. Djarin travels to Mandalore to be baptized as a Mandalorian. However, he gets captured and looses the Darksaber. Bo-Katan is able to rescue him, winning back the Darksaber and seeing a Mythosaur in the process. Because of this, Bo-Katan is elected the leader of the Mandalorians and is tasked with reuniting the fractionated group.
In the post-Imperial era of the New Republic, an uprising is brewing. Moff Gideon has gone missing. Cloning has been banned. Bo-Katan experiences a TIE fighter attack. Gideon is made aware of the Mandalorian uprising and relays the information to the Shadow Council, a group of warlords from the days of the Empire. Gideon requests reinforcements, and questions the location of Grand Admiral Thrawn. The Mandalorians arrive on Mandalore, only to be encountered by Gideon and his army of Stormtroopers. Gideon reveals his plan of making a clone army of stormtroopers based on himself, with beskar-enhanced armor and the ability to use the force. This, of course, ties in the plot from season 1, where Grogu was being hunted for his force abilities.
There were times during the third season where I was a bit down on the show. However, the final two episodes were fantastic. It did a good job of pulling together 3 seasons worth of storytelling. In addition, it created excitement for what will come next during the New Republic era by mentioning Grand Admiral Thrawn. I cannot wait for the Ahsoka series later this year.
